Turning Waste into Wonder: Sykesville's New Composting Program Kicks Off

Last Updated 7/1/2024

A great turnout for a new initiative!

Educational sessions are coordinated by Cadette Girl Scouts Charlotte, Sarah, and Tainne of Troop 1290, pictured here with Sykesville's very own Composting Enthusiast, Mayor Stacy Link. This program is supported by the Downtown Sykesville Connection (DSC) fundraisers and a grant awarded to the DSC by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

June 19th Sykesville residents gathered at the Sykesville 'Eileen M. Merkle' Community Garden for the first educational session

Cadette Girl Scouts Charlotte, Sarah, and Tainne of Troop 1290 led the event with a presentation on composting. Following their presentation, there was an informative discussion featuring Nicole Batista, a Sykesville resident and expert composter. They answered questions and provided tips and tricks for composting success. Attendees received table top composters and a brochure summarizing the information shared during the presentation.

The next session will be held at 6pm on July 17th at the Sykesville 'Eileen M. Merkle' Community Garden. Cadette Girl Scouts Charlotte, Sarah, and Tainne will be joined by Diane Bayless, a Carroll County Master Gardener.

Join us in making Sykesville greener! 💚 Sign up to attend this session, get a table-top or backyard composter, or to become a Composting Champion here!
